JARED HENDERSON
Jared Henderson (SHS Class of 2009). Musician, Composer, Teacher
Extraordinaire, Athlete. Jared is one of the most accomplished musicians to come
out of Sisters High School. While at Sisters, Jared took advantage of all SHS had to
offer, including cross-country, track (winning a state championship as a member of
the 4 x 400-meter relay team – still a school record), the Interdisciplinary
Environmental Expeditions program, and all the arts programs. However, Jared
most notably excelled in band and at the music venues throughout Sisters country.
His talents and passion for music took him to New York City (CUNY Brooklyn
College) and ultimately to the internationally renowned Berklee College of Music
in Boston on a full music scholarship. At Berklee, Jared shined academically while
also representing the college as part of numerous international outreach tours.
Since Berklee, Jared has performed internationally with some of the world’s most
notable musicians, including premiere jazz artists. He also has performed on
recordings that have sold millions. Jared has composed and recorded his own
works, including a suite of music called “Freedom of the Wilderness” dedicated to
his experience growing up in Sisters. He collaborated with a dance choreographer
from NYC while creating that suite and co-produced a dance film that features the
composition. While he still composes, records, and performs throughout the
world, Jared also has started a teaching career (like his fellow HOF inductee father,
Jody), helping to educate the next generation of outstanding musicians.
